My story began when I was just a child. My mother was a fantastic cook, and it was from her that I inherited my love for food and cooking. I spent countless hours in the kitchen, watching her, asking questions, and helping prepare meals. I vividly remember making my first dish—a spinach and feta pastry. Although it didn’t turn out perfectly, we had a lot of fun together, and those early experiences taught me valuable lessons.
I've always been a passionate home cook, delighting in preparing meals for friends and family. I was born in Izmir, a small city in western Turkey renowned for its use of olive oil and fresh vegetables. The cuisine here is essentially Mediterranean, rich in healthy dishes made with olive oil, fresh vegetables, seafood, and various meats.
Turkish cuisine is a melting pot of flavours and techniques, tracing its origins to the nomadic Turkic tribes of Central Asia. These tribes brought their cooking methods and ingredients, laying the foundation for Turkish cuisine. As the Ottoman Empire expanded, Turkish cuisine absorbed influences from various cultures, evolving into the complex and delightful culinary tradition we know today.
Seven years ago, I moved to Australia and decided to pursue my passion professionally. I studied commercial cookery and worked diligently, progressing from a cook to a chef. During and after my training, I gained valuable experience working in different restaurants, cafes, and catering companies. Now, I find joy in preparing homemade Turkish meals in my food van, using my mother’s cherished recipes to create comfort food that Turkish people enjoy at home.
